Swedish organiser of serious violence arrested in Iraq

Extradition proceedings for the suspect, who is linked to the Foxtrot network, are underway

A High-Value Target under Europol-supported Operational Taskforce GRIMM was arrested in Iraq following long-term cooperation between the Swedish Police Authority and Iraqi law enforcement authorities. The 21-year-old suspect, a Swedish national who was listed on the EU Most Wanted list, is identified as a key organiser of serious violence directed at Sweden from abroad.

The suspect is linked to the Foxtrot criminal network and is assessed to have played a central role in coordinating violence-as-a-service, including the recruitment and exploitation of minors. The arrest marks a significant operational outcome for Operational Taskforce (OTF) GRIMM, which targets criminal networks that use cross-border infrastructure to commission violence and insulate key figures by operating from outside the EU. In connection with the operation, another individual linked to the same network was also arrested. This person is wanted by Swedish judicial authorities for multiple serious offences, including conspiracy to commit murder and explosives-related crimes.

Swedish authorities believe that the arrest of this High-Value Target will significantly weaken the network’s ability to coordinate violence internationally. Extradition proceedings are underway, while cooperation under OTF GRIMM continues to identify, disrupt and prosecute further key actors.

More information is available in the press release on the arrest by the Swedish Police Authority.
